3DCDesign Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 9, 2026
This policy covers the 3DCDesign app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and the 3dcdesign.com website. 3DCDesign is made by Big Bwain LLC ("we", "us"). The app is listed on the App Store under the seller name Earl Hayes and on Google Play under the developer name The3DCoder; both listings publish the app for Big Bwain LLC, which is responsible for the information described here.
The short version
- The app does not need an account. There is no sign-up and no sign-in.
- What you enter in the app is kept on your device. We do not run servers that receive your printers, prints, materials, customers, documents, photos, backups or settings, so we never have a copy of them.
- The app contains no advertising, no analytics, no tracking and no crash-reporting service.
- Anything that leaves the app does so because you chose it: a file you export or share, a backup you save, an email or text you send from your own mail or messaging app, or a connection to your own printer. Apple or Google may also include app data in device backups you have turned on.
- Notifications, home-screen widgets and iPhone Live Activities are made on your device, with no push server. They can show names from your records, such as print and spool names, on your lock screen or home screen.
- If you subscribe to Business Premium, Apple or Google gives us the purchase and order records for that subscription, including a coded profile identifier described below.
- The website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and has no forms.
- We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
The app
What the app stores on your device
The app keeps the information you choose to enter in its own storage on your device. Depending on what you use, that can include:
- your maker profile, app settings and preferences;
- business details you add for your documents, such as your address, tax ID, logo, and how customers can pay you, including a payment link or bank details (IBAN and BIC), which the app can print on the documents you issue, also as a QR code made on your device;
- printer profiles, maintenance schedules, service history, work orders, printer connection settings, and printer status history for 30 days;
- print jobs, production plans, timers, costs, estimates, quotes, invoices, purchase orders, payments and reports;
- materials, spools, stock history, suppliers, purchases and inventory tasks;
- customer details you type in, follow-up reminders and message templates;
- notes, saved documents, templates, and the photos and videos you add to the Gallery; and
- records the app needs to run, such as backup and import history and your subscription details (see Business Premium below).
Profiles you create in the app exist only on your device. They are not online accounts.
Passwords and API keys for printer connections are kept in your device's secure storage: the iOS Keychain on iPhone and iPad, and on Android, encrypted with a key held in the Android Keystore. They are never included in 3DCDesign backup files, exports or diagnostics files. On iPhone and iPad, your device's own backup (iCloud or a computer backup) can still include them in encrypted form. On Android, device backup and transfer leave them out, so after restoring to a new or reset phone you enter printer passwords again. On iPhone and iPad, saved printer passwords can stay in the Keychain after you uninstall the app; removing the printer connection in the app first deletes them.
Camera: scanning codes and capturing media
The camera is used only when you start it.
- Scan & Label: when you choose to scan a QR code or barcode, the camera image is decoded inside the app to find the matching record on your device. Scanned frames are not saved and are not sent anywhere. You can always type a code instead.
- Gallery: when you choose to take a photo or record a video for the Gallery, the result is saved in the app on your device. Recording a Gallery video uses the microphone.
The QR code itself contains only a record type and a random record identifier. A printed label also shows the material's name, family, type, color and storage location as text. No customer details, prices or notes are printed. A label goes only where you print or share it.
NFC spool tags
If your phone can read NFC tags, you can scan a spool's NFC tag to find that spool or add it. The app reads a tag only while you are scanning: its ID and, when the tag carries them in a format the app reads, the spool's details. The tag's ID is saved with the spool on your device, so a later scan finds it. If the tag says how much material is left, the app asks you before it changes the spool's amount. The app does not write to tags, and nothing it reads from a tag is sent to us.
Photos, files and 3D model files
When you pick a photo, video or file, the app reads only the item you picked. That includes images for the Gallery, spreadsheets (CSV) you import, backup files you restore, STL, OBJ or 3MF model files, sliced print files and Spoolman export files.
STL, OBJ and 3MF files are read on your device to measure them or to convert an OBJ or 3MF file to STL. Model files are never uploaded. A converted file is saved on your device where you choose.
Sliced print files (G-code, binary G-code and sliced 3MF files) are read on your device for the details your slicer saved in them, such as the print time, the filament used and a preview picture, to fill in a print. If you save the print, the preview picture is added to it in the Gallery. Sliced files are never uploaded.
You can import your spools from a Spoolman export file (JSON or CSV) that you choose. The app reads that file on your device and shows you a preview of the changes before it makes them. It does not connect to a Spoolman server.
Files from other apps
You can open a file in 3DCDesign from another app, or share one to it, such as a sliced file from your slicer, a model, a backup, a photo or a PDF. The app copies the file into its own temporary storage, reads it there and removes the copy once it has been used. It never changes the original file and never uploads it. A backup opens a restore preview, and nothing is restored until you choose to restore it. Photos and PDFs are added to the Gallery of a print you choose.
Reminders and notifications
The app's notifications are made on your device. There is no push server, and we never receive what they say. They are:
- Reminders: for planned work, maintenance, inventory tasks, customer follow-ups and notes. These are optional.
- Print finished: a notice when a running print should be done, with buttons to mark it done, mark it failed or snooze it for 30 minutes. This is on by default.
- Live print progress: on Android, a silent, ongoing notification showing a running print's progress. From Android 16, the system can show it as a Live Update on the lock screen and as a chip in the status bar. On iPhone, this is the Live Activity described below. This is on by default.
- Low stock and Needs drying: a notice when a product drops to its restock level, or when an open spool is due for drying. These are off until you turn them on.
Print finished, Live print progress, Low stock and Needs drying each have a switch in the app's Settings, under Notifications. The app asks for notification permission when it first needs it: the first time you start a timed print, turn on a reminder, or turn on Low stock or Needs drying.
To show or schedule a notification, the app gives your device's own notification system the time, a short title and message, and internal record numbers so a tap opens the right record. Notifications can name your prints, printers, spools and products. Depending on your device's settings, their text can appear on your lock screen and on devices linked to yours, such as a paired watch.
If you tap a button on a print-finished notification and the app cannot finish the action straight away, it keeps a note of the tap on the device, holding only internal record numbers, the button and the time, and applies it the next time you open the app. That note is never included in 3DCDesign backups.
On Android, the app also re-checks scheduled reminders after the device restarts or the app updates, so reminders are not lost. This reads only the reminders saved on the device. It uses no network and never asks for permission in the background.
If a reminder belongs to something you delete, the app may keep a small note holding only internal record numbers until the device confirms the reminder is cancelled. That note holds no names, contact details or message text, is never included in 3DCDesign backups, and is removed once the reminder is cancelled.
Live Activities on iPhone
While a timed print runs, the app can show it as a Live Activity on your iPhone's lock screen and, on iPhones that have one, in the Dynamic Island. It shows the print's name, the printer, the print's progress and when it should finish. The app starts and updates it on your iPhone, for example when you pause the print, and uses no push service. The app ends it when the print is finished, fails, or is cancelled or deleted, or when you turn off Live print progress, and iOS ends it after eight hours at most.
Apple can also show Live Activities on a paired Apple Watch, on a Mac or in CarPlay, depending on your settings. You can turn the Live Activity off with Live print progress in the app's Settings, under Notifications, or turn off Live Activities for 3DCDesign in your iPhone's settings.
Home-screen widgets
You can add three optional 3DCDesign widgets to your home screen: Active print, Today and Low filament. To draw them, the app writes the text they show to a small file: on iPhone and iPad in storage shared by the app and its widgets (an App Group), and on Android in the app's private storage. That text can include print, printer, spool and product names, task titles, counts and times. It never includes customer, contact, supplier or money details, though a name you typed, such as a print named after a customer, appears as you typed it.
The app rewrites that file as you use the app, and at once when you delete, archive or rename a print, spool or product. The file is not included in 3DCDesign backups, and uninstalling the app removes it. The widgets read only that file and make no network requests. Tapping a widget or a Live Activity opens the right page in the app through a link that carries only internal record numbers.
Anyone who can see your home screen, or another screen where a widget is shown, can read what it shows.
Email and text messages
The app can fill in an email or text message from a template you write. You see the recipient and the full message first. Only after you choose to continue does the app open your device's own mail or messaging app with that draft.
3DCDesign never sends a message by itself and does not know whether a message was sent, delivered or read. The app may note that it opened your mail or messaging app; that note is not proof a message was sent. Once the draft is in your mail or messaging app, that app and your provider handle it under their own privacy terms.
Optional printer connections
You can connect the app to your own Moonraker/Klipper, OctoPrint or PrusaLink printer host. When you do:
- the app talks directly to that printer over your own network. The traffic never passes through our servers;
- searching for printers on your network happens only when you choose to search. On iPhone and iPad this needs your local network permission; on Android the app uses Wi-Fi network access for the same search;
- many printer hosts use plain (unencrypted) web connections on a home network, and the app supports that so it can reach them. On a plain (http) connection, the password or API key you enter is sent to your printer unencrypted over your network; and
- the app stores the latest printer status and a history of status readings from the last 30 days on your device.
Printer status is read-only to start with. Printer controls must be turned on by you and are confirmed each time. Everything else in the app works without a printer connection.
Files you export or share
You can create PDFs, spreadsheets (CSV), labels and QR images, model files, ZIP packages (shop evidence and Business Handoff packs), customer documents such as statements and receipts, backups, a restore report listing any records a restore could not bring back (record types, record numbers and the reason, with no names, contact details or record content), and an optional diagnostics file, and you can share Gallery photos and videos. Each one goes only where you send it, using your device's save or share options. We do not receive these files. Some of them, such as invoices, statements and handoff packs, contain the customer details you entered.
The diagnostics file is created only when you choose Export redacted diagnostics. That button is under Support Diagnostics, on a one-time Home card shown after the app closed unexpectedly, and on the screen shown if the app cannot start. It contains the time it was made, the app version and schema version, your device type (phone or tablet) and system version, counts of every kind of record, counts of incomplete records, the types of recent app errors (not their messages), general printer connection states, and when printers were last checked and last captured. It does not contain customer details, business content, file paths, network addresses, printer names, passwords or messages. It reaches us only if you choose to send it to us.
The app also keeps a short, private on-device log of recent app errors (the time, the area of the app and the type of error, with no messages or personal details). It is never sent anywhere.
Backups
Creating, previewing and restoring 3DCDesign backups is free. A backup holds your app data and, if you choose, your Gallery photos and videos. The app keeps a copy under Saved Backups on this device, and you can also save or share it wherever you choose, such as a cloud drive you use or a computer. We never receive it.
If you turn on automatic backups, the app also saves a backup of your records, without Gallery photos and videos, daily or weekly to a folder you choose. That can be a folder in a cloud drive you use, whose provider then handles the copy under its own terms. The app keeps the last 7 daily and 4 weekly copies it made there, removes its own older copies, and never deletes backups you made yourself. On Android, a scheduled background job can save the backup while the app is closed; on iPhone and iPad, the app saves it while it is open. If the app can no longer reach your folder on iPhone or iPad, it saves the backup in its own Automatic backups folder on the device, which you can open in the Files app, until you choose a folder again. We never receive these copies.
Backup files are not password-protected by the app, so keep them somewhere you trust. Printer passwords and API keys are never included, and neither are your subscription details.
Before a restore replaces your data, the app keeps a safety copy of your current data on this device, so you can undo the restore for 24 hours. It keeps the three most recent safety copies and never deletes backups you made yourself.
If the app finds its database damaged, it renames the damaged copy and keeps it on this device. It is never sent anywhere.
Separately, Apple or Google may include the app's data in your device backup according to your device settings. On iPhone and iPad (an iCloud or computer backup), that can include the copies under Saved Backups, automatic backups saved in the app's own folder, Gallery media, and the encrypted printer passwords described above. On Android (Google's device backup or a transfer to a new phone), it includes only the app's database and settings; Saved Backups, Gallery media, exports and printer passwords stay on the phone. We do not receive or control those backups.
Business Premium subscription
Business Premium is an optional subscription sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the purchase and your payment details under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your card or bank details.
When you subscribe, the app gives Apple or Google a coded identifier for the profile on your device so the purchase can be matched to that profile. It contains no name or contact details, and we do not use it to identify you. Apple and Google keep it with the purchase, and we can see it in the purchase and order records they provide to us.
The app receives the plan, status, renewal and expiry dates, and a store transaction reference it needs to decide whether Business Premium is available, and keeps them only on this device. They are left out of 3DCDesign backups. You manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
If you have an offer code, you redeem it on Apple's own offer code sheet or on Google Play's redeem page, which the app opens for you. The app never sees the code.
Information from Apple and Google
Apple and Google give app developers summary statistics about their apps, such as download and install counts, and purchase and order records for subscriptions. If you have agreed in your device settings to share diagnostics with Apple or Google, they may also share crash reports with us. These come from the platforms under their own terms. We have not added any analytics or crash-reporting service of our own.
Ratings
After a good moment in the app, 3DCDesign may ask Apple or Google to show their rating sheet. The app decides when to ask from counts kept only on your device, such as how many days you have used it and when it last asked. Anything you type into that sheet goes to Apple or Google under their own terms; the app never sees your rating or review. On Android this uses Google Play's In-App Review library, listed under Open-source licenses in the app.
Links
The app can open websites, such as 3dcdesign.com, the terms of use and your store subscription settings, in your browser. Those websites have their own privacy practices.
Permissions the app uses
- Camera: scanning codes and taking Gallery photos and videos, only when you start it.
- Microphone: recording a Gallery video, only when you record one.
- Photos (iPhone and iPad): choosing photos and videos from your library for the Gallery through the system picker. On Android, the system picker gives the app only the items you pick, without a photos permission.
- Notifications: reminders you turn on, print-finished notifications, a running print's progress on Android, and the low-stock and needs-drying notifications you turn on.
- Local network (iPhone and iPad) and network access (Android): reaching and finding your own printers.
- NFC: reading a spool's NFC tag, only while you scan one. On Android this permission never shows a prompt; on iPhone, the system shows its own scanning sheet each time.
- Run at startup (Android): re-checking saved reminders after a restart or app update. This permission never shows a prompt.
- Vibration (Android): small vibrations as feedback when you tap. This permission never shows a prompt.
- Live Updates (Android): showing a running print as a Live Update, from Android 16. This permission never shows a prompt, and you can turn Live Updates off for the app in Android's settings.
Android also declares standard permissions that never prompt: in-app billing, and keeping the device awake briefly for background work, such as reminders and automatic backups.
If you say no to camera or notification access, the rest of the app keeps working: you can type codes instead of scanning and see reminders inside the app. If you say no to the microphone, you can still take photos, but recording a Gallery video needs it. You can change these permissions at any time in your device settings.
This website
3dcdesign.com is a static website: every page is a ready-made file, and the site has no user accounts, no database and no forms.
- Hosting: the site is hosted on Microsoft Azure Static Web Apps.
- Domain name system: Cloudflare provides the site's DNS only. Cloudflare answers the lookup that turns "3dcdesign.com" into an address. Your visits to the pages do not pass through Cloudflare.
- No cookies, no analytics: the site does not set cookies and does not use analytics, advertising or tracking code.
- Server logs: like any web host, Microsoft processes standard information about each request, such as your IP address, the page asked for, the date and time, and your browser type, to deliver and protect the site. Microsoft may keep this in its service logs under its own privacy terms. We do not use this information to identify or profile visitors.
- Contacting us: the site's support and request links open an email to help@3dcdesign.com or sales@3dcdesign.com in your own mail app. Nothing you type is collected by the website.
- Links to stores: the site links to the App Store and Google Play. Those pages are run by Apple and Google under their own privacy policies.
Emails to us
If you email help@3dcdesign.com or sales@3dcdesign.com, we receive what you choose to send, along with your email address, and use it only to answer you. Our email provider stores these messages for us.
- Support emails (help@): we keep them only as long as needed to help you, and we will delete them if you ask.
- Print or design requests (sales@): these can include your name, a delivery address and project files. We use them only to quote and carry out your request. We keep them while the request is open and for as long as tax and accounting records require afterwards, then delete them. Ask us and we will delete anything we are not required to keep.
Please do not send passwords, payment details or other sensitive information by email. If you send a backup or diagnostics file, we use it only to help with your request and delete it afterwards.
Deleting your data
Because your app data is on your device, you are in control of it:
- Delete records in the app. You can delete the records you no longer want from the app.
- Delete saved backups in the app. Backups the app keeps under Saved Backups stay on the device until you delete them there.
- Safety copies and damaged data. The safety copies made before a restore, and any damaged database the app set aside, are kept in the app's own storage on the device. The app keeps only the three most recent safety copies, and uninstalling the app removes all of them.
- Widgets, Live Activities and notifications. These show copies of your records. When you delete, archive or rename a print, spool or product, the app rewrites its widgets at once, and deleting a print ends its Live Activity. Uninstalling the app removes the widget file and any notification taps the app was still holding.
- Uninstall the app. This removes the app's data from the device. On Android, clearing the app's storage in system settings does the same. On iPhone and iPad, saved printer passwords can stay in the Keychain after uninstalling; remove the printer connection in the app first to delete them.
- Delete your backup and export files. Backups and exports you saved or shared, including automatic backups in the folder you chose, stay wherever you put them, so delete them there: in your cloud drive, on your computer or in another app.
- Device backups. Manage iCloud, computer or Google device backups in your device settings.
- Emails to us. Ask us at help@3dcdesign.com and we will delete your messages, apart from anything tax or accounting law requires us to keep.
We cannot delete, restore or recover your app data for you, because we never have a copy of it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it. We hold the emails you send us and the purchase and order records Apple or Google provide for subscriptions. Our host, Microsoft, keeps standard website request logs.
- Emails: ask us for a copy, a correction or deletion.
- Subscription records: ask us what we can see for your purchase. Apple and Google hold the purchase itself, so send requests for the data they keep to Apple or Google through their privacy pages.
- Website request logs: we cannot link these logs to a person and do not keep our own copy. Microsoft handles them under its privacy terms.
Contact help@3dcdesign.com and we will respond within the time your local law requires.
Children
3DCDesign is a general tool for 3D printing and is not directed at children under 13. The app does not send us personal information from anyone. If a child under 13 has emailed us, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete that message.
Security
App data is protected by your device's own security, such as its passcode and storage encryption. Printer passwords and API keys are kept in the device's secure storage; on a plain (http) printer connection they travel to your printer unencrypted over your own network. Keep your device and your backup files safe, because anyone who can open them can read your data.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the app, the website or the law changes in a way that affects it. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed.
